A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. NATHANIEL STONE UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF MILAM INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, Mr. Nathaniel Stone, Principal of Milam Intermediate School in Tupelo, Mississippi, since 1992 will be retiring at the end of the 1998-1999 school year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stone enlisted in the United States Army in 1951, honorably serving his country and earning the rank of Corporal before retiring in 1953; and
WHEREAS, in 1957, Mr. Stone earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science from the Mississippi Industrial College before earning a Master's Degree in Elementary School Administration from Jackson State University in 1972; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stone began his dedicated career in education in 1957 as a classroom instructor at Tipton Street High School in Kosciusko, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in 1959, Mr. Stone entered the Tupelo Public School District, teaching and coaching football, basketball and baseball at George Washington Carver High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stone was named Principal of Green Street/Martin Luther King Elementary School in 1963, where he remained for almost 30 years; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Tupelo, Mr. Stone serves as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School and Bible Class Instructor, President of the Usher Board, Co-Director of the Youth Drill Team and Director of the Baptist Training Union; and
WHEREAS, in addition, Mr. Stone participates in several community organizations, including the Henry Hampton Elks Lodge #742, the VFW, the Lee County 4-H Advisory Committee, the Tupelo Committee of Concern, the Committee Foundation for Positive Action and the Tupelo Community Service Program; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stone has unselfishly dedicated his efforts to assisting the Tupelo Public School District in furthering its goals of educating, training and molding the students of the district to be responsible adults and future leaders; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stone has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wife of 43 years, Clytee Moore Stone, and three children -- Debra, Nathaniel, Jr. and Gwendolyn; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend such outstanding leaders as Mr. Nathaniel Stone, who has dedicated so many years of service to the City of Tupelo and the State of Mississippi in furthering the education and social development of the students of the Tupelo Public School District:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate Mr. Nathaniel Stone upon his retirement as Principal of Milam Intermediate School at the end of the 1998-1999 school year and express our appreciation to him for providing so many years of dedicated service to the youth and citizens of Tupelo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Nathaniel Stone and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
